It utilizes a hacked force sensor and connects that sensor data to a mobile app which allows you to to see the percentage of food left in that container. We hope this will encourage people to be more aware of their food waste. Many of our future ideas are building off the idea of utilizing this product to aid the environment by encouraging people to waste less of their food.
We hacked a force sensor to use it as a "weight" sensor. By cutting the size of the surface area, we effectively concentrate the pressure of the object onto the sensor, enabling us to get a fake "weight" measurement from the differene in voltage. The sensor's progress can be seen by the pictures in the slideshow and the code can be viewed at the link accessible by clicking on the images.
Once the data gets sent through the wifi breakout we assembled, we collect the data within a database. The data is then pulled from the database for display for the user in our app. The database and app's progress can be seen by the pictures in the slideshow and the code can be viewed at the link accessible by clicking on the images.
